Chapter 32 - the shattered glass

Maya immediately drove to the Russo estate, her hands trembling against the steering wheel. She found Dante in his study, pouring over shipping manifests. The moment he saw her pale face, his legendary mafia instincts flared violently.

She told him about the black sedan and the cold eyes watching her from the rainy street. Dante's rugged jaw locked into solid stone. The pale-gray depths of his eyes darkened into an absolute, lethal storm.

"Silvio Moretti," Dante growled, recognizing the description of the Chicago boss. "He thinks he can use you to force my hand. He has just signed his own death warrant."

The very next morning, the fragile peace was shattered. A heavy brick was hurled through the front window of Sweet Haven, showering the pristine marble floors in jagged, dangerous glass.

Tied to the brick was a threatening note demanding Dante surrender his shipping ports by midnight, or the bakery would be burned to the ground.
