Chapter 1 - The Toast to Betrayal

The elegant indoor room was a masterpiece of celebration, decorated lavishly with pastel pink and blue balloons, cascading floral arrangements, tall gift towers, and gleaming marble floors. High-society female guests in pastel dresses mingled near the champagne fountain, laughing and chatting. But at the center of the room, a knife was slowly twisting in Claire’s chest.

Mark stood proudly at the front of the room, wearing a sharp light blue suit with a white shirt and no tie. His handsome face beamed with arrogant joy as he raised a crystal champagne glass in his hand. Tucked closely under his arm was a young blonde woman in a light pink wrap dress, her swollen belly proudly announcing her pregnancy.

It was Mark’s mistress, Jessica, and they were celebrating their unborn child—at a baby shower funded by Claire’s family fortune.

Mark looked around the room, his eyes scanning the crowd with mock sentimentality before locking onto Claire, who stood quietly near the back in a simple, sleeveless navy blue dress, her brown hair worn loose.

"To the woman who finally made me a father," Mark announced loudly, his voice echoing over the marble floor as he smiled down at Jessica.
