Chapter 7 - The Final Farewell

The pastel-dressed guests slowly backed away, not wanting to be associated with a disgraced, penniless fraud. The Older Woman collapsed into a pastel armchair, weeping quietly into her beige lace sleeves as she realized her ruthless ambition had destroyed her family's legacy.

Mark stood in the center of the room, his light blue suit looking like a straightjacket, his face pale and completely broken. He looked at Claire—the woman he had underestimated, betrayed, and discarded—and saw only a queen ruling her kingdom.

"Claire... please," Mark whispered, his voice cracking as he took a tentative step toward her. "Think of the boys. They need a father."

Claire looked down at her two little boys, who smiled up at her happily, entirely oblivious to the corporate warfare that had just taken place. She then looked back at Mark, her eyes completely devoid of mercy.

"They have a mother who protected them," Claire said quietly, her voice smooth as glass. "And as for you, Mark... you're just a visitor who outstayed his welcome."

She turned gracefully on her heel, taking her two sons by the hand. Her father walked beside them, the heavy double doors swinging open to guide them out into the bright afternoon sunlight.
