Chapter 16 - the stillness
Claire slammed the phone down, proudly turning her back and walking away without bothering to look back even once. Mark's pathetic, desperate cries echoed hopelessly behind the thick glass, but they didn't bother her in the least.
She stepped out of the heavy prison gates, welcoming the radiant sunlight of a new day. The final burden in her soul was completely lifted. Hatred no longer possessed her heart, making way for absolute serenity.
She returned to the luxurious penthouse. The twin boys, Leo and Max, were eagerly playing with building blocks on the soft velvet rug. Seeing their mother, they rushed to hug her with pure, unconditional love.
Claire held her children in her arms, feeling the warmth and heartbeat of these little lives. She had traded her youth, enduring humiliating deception, but in the end, she had reclaimed the most precious thing in the world.
No power or money could compare to the happy smiles of her children. She had protected her small world from the cruelest monsters, proving extraordinary mettle.
