Chapter 36 - the ultimate punishment

Mark dropped his head onto the glass table, sobbing pathetically. For fifteen years, he had lived in inner torment, hoping that one day his sons would visit and forgive his terrible mistakes.
But Leo's cold, emotionless gaze completely extinguished that last ray of hope. Leo didn't hate him; he simply no longer considered him a part of the wonderful life mother Claire had worked so hard to build.
"All you left us is an expensive lesson about betrayal," Leo said, his voice calm but containing immense lethal damage. "I will never become a man like you."
The young man put the phone down, proudly turning his back and walking away, leaving the man who sired him crying out in utter despair. Stepping out of the heavy prison gates, Leo took a deep breath of the fresh air of freedom.
The last dark clouds of the past were completely dispelled. His family was not defined by Mark's filthy bloodline, but shaped by the love, resilience, and extraordinary bravery of a mother.
