Chapter 4 - The Splashing Glass

The camera zoomed in tight on the Older Woman’s beige high heels standing firmly on the marble floor.
Splash.
A sudden, second puddle of water formed on the floor directly between her feet. The older woman looked down, confused for a split second, before realizing her own composure had completely deserted her.
Mark turned around, his handsome face draining of all color. His jaw dropped open as he stared at his two sons holding onto his legal wife.
"Claire..." Mark stammered, taking a panicked step backward, nearly tripping over the gift boxes. "Where did you... how did they get here? They were supposed to be in Europe!"
Jessica, the pregnant blonde standing beside him, turned pale as a ghost. She gripped Mark’s arm with her long acrylic nails, her voice pitching up in hysteria. "Mark! Who are they?! You told me you didn't have any kids! You said you were completely single!"
Mark ignored her, his eyes darting wildly around the room as the female guests began whispering furiously among themselves, realizing the "romantic baby shower" was actually a front for a monstrous betrayal.

Claire slowly stood up from the marble floor, keeping the two little boys safely behind her skirts. Her natural breathing was steady, her posture immaculate.
👉 Mark was drowning in his own panic, but his mother was about to make the situation infinitely worse.
