Chapter 6 - The Federal Audit

"There's nothing left to talk about in private, Mark," a deep, authoritative voice boomed from the doorway.
Every head whipped around. Stepping into the pastel-decorated room was Claire’s father, a billionaire real estate titan, flanked by four federal marshals and two corporate attorneys carrying thick black briefcases.
Mark’s knees buckled. He grabbed the edge of the gift table to keep from collapsing onto the marble floor.
"Dad..." Mark choked out, looking at his father-in-law with sheer terror.
"Don't call me dad," the older man stated coldly, stepping up to Claire and resting a protective hand on her shoulder. "My legal team audited your accounts this morning, Mark. Every single penny of your personal wealth, your cars, your offshore accounts, and your shares in my company were legally tied to your marriage contract through a pre-nup clause triggered by adultery and asset concealment."
The attorney stepped forward, handing Mark a thick stack of legal documents.
"You are officially broke, Mr. Miller," the attorney announced clearly. "Your corporate credit cards are frozen, your penthouse has been repossessed, and you are being served with immediate divorce and eviction papers."
