Chapter 2 - The Forbidden Twins

Claire didn't cry. Her realistic facial micro-expressions showed no panic, no screaming, and no public breakdown. Instead, a slow, calculated calm settled over her features. She looked at Mark with a gaze so cold it could freeze fire.

Just two years ago, Mark had convinced Claire to send their twin baby boys away to a secure, private estate overseas, lying that business rivals were targeting the family and that it was the only way to keep them safe. In reality, Mark had been having an affair with Jessica, plotting to divorce Claire, strip her of her assets, and replace her with a younger model who gave him a "legitimate" heir under his control.

Claire had spent two agonizing years playing the broken, submissive wife, letting Mark think he had won.

Until today.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the decorated room swung open with a soft click. Two tiny figures darted past the gift boxes, their little feet tapping rapidly against the marble floor.

"Mommy, mommy!"

The two 3-5-year-old twin boys, wearing matching white shirts, black pants, and navy blue suspenders, ignored the pastel balloons and the stunned guests entirely. They ran straight past Mark and Jessica’s podium.

Claire’s cold facade instantly melted. She dropped forward, squatting down on the marble floor with her arms wide open.

👉 Mark’s toast was violently interrupted, and the children he thought were thousands of miles away had just returned home.
