Chapter 14 - the punishment
Claire stood up, walking toward Victor with a quiet demeanor carrying breathtaking pressure. All the evidence regarding his money laundering, smuggling, and extortion activities had been forwarded directly by her investigative team to the authorities.
"Do you think your cruelty can manipulate me?" Claire ground out every word, her sharp hazel eyes seeing right through the enemy's soul. "My family is not a gold mine for you to drain. You people are parasites."
Victor struggled hopelessly as the cold steel handcuffs locked tightly around his wrists. The criminal empire he had spent decades building was smashed in just a single night by a woman he had once looked down upon.
Not a single lawyer dared to stand up and defend him against the undeniable steel evidence. Victor was escorted out of the restaurant under the flashing lights of the reporters Claire had arranged to wait beforehand.
A sentence of life without parole was certainly awaiting him. Claire stepped out into the cold night air, taking a deep breath. The air felt cleaner and purer than ever before.
