Chapter 15 - the ghost behind bars

A few weeks after Victor was imprisoned, Claire decided to make one final trip to confront the ghost of the past. She drove to the maximum-security federal prison, where her traitorous husband Mark was serving a ten-year sentence.
The dull orange jumpsuit and shaved head made Mark look gaunt and a decade older. When he stepped into the visitation room and saw Claire through the tempered glass, his eyes lit up with a pitiful ray of hope.
"Claire... did you come to forgive me?" Mark stammered through the telephone, tears welling up. He thought her appearance was a sign of pity for a man who had lost everything.
But Claire only looked at him coldly, with not a trace of emotion stirring on her flawless face. "I came here to inform you that Victor, the uncle you always relied on, has also moved in here to live with you."
Utter panic appeared plainly on Mark's face. He understood that no force could save him anymore. All doors had slammed shut completely.
