Chapter 3 - The Shocked Matriarch

The twin boys slammed into Claire’s arms, burying their faces in her navy blue dress as she hugged them both fiercely against her chest.
"Mommy, we missed you so much!" the boys chimed in unison, their cute brown hair bouncing as Claire kissed the tops of their heads.
The room went dead silent. The pastel-dressed guests froze mid-laugh, champagne glasses suspended in the air.
Standing near the front row was Mark’s mother, the wealthy and arrogant matriarch who had helped orchestrate Claire’s isolation. The older woman wore an elegant beige lace dress and a heavy pearl necklace. Right now, her grey hair styled in an updo seemed to bristle as her eyes widened in absolute, suffocating shock.
She stared at the twins, her brain violently short-circuiting. Those were Mark’s sons. The heirs she thought she had successfully banished to an elite boarding school in Switzerland to clear the path for Jessica’s unborn baby.
"What... what is the meaning of this?!" the Older Woman gasped, her hands shaking as she clutched her pearl necklace.

Mark’s smiling face instantly froze. The champagne glass slipped from his fingers, shattering against the marble floor with a sharp crash, followed immediately by a small puddle of sparkling liquid pooling around his leather shoes.
👉 Mark looked at the boys, then at his mother, realizing his entire web of lies was unraveling in real time.
