Chapter 10 - The King's Justice

Dante carried Elena up the dark stairwell in his arms, holding her tightly against his chest, while little Ivy walked bravely beside them, her small hand buried in Argo’s thick black fur.

When they emerged back into the grand marble foyer of the mansion, the elite syndicate capos and loyal bodyguards had already assembled, alerted by the gunfire. They stood in absolute, stunned silence as their ruthless boss walked through the hall carrying the woman they had all been told was a traitor.

Camilla was kneeling in the center of the foyer, surrounded by armed guards, weeping hysterically, her white mink coat ruined by dirt and tears.

"Dante, please! Have mercy! I'm your blood!" Camilla begged, pressing her face to the marble floor.

Dante gently set Elena down into a plush armchair, keeping Ivy safely tucked by her side. He turned around, his face completely devoid of mercy, empathy, or familial love.

"You are no longer my blood," Dante stated, his voice echoing with absolute, freezing finality. "Strip her of her name. Empty her accounts. Throw her into the very cell she kept my family in, and throw away the key. She will live the rest of her miserable life exactly how she forced my wife to live."

The guards violently grabbed the screaming, thrashing woman, dragging her away into the shadows of the basement.

Dante turned back to his family. He knelt down, kissing Elena’s forehead, and then kissed Ivy’s small, brave cheek. The nightmare was finally over. The king had his queen, his heir, and his loyal beast, and his empire was whole once more.

If you were Dante, would you have locked your treacherous sister in the cellar forever, or would you have handed her over to the police to rot in a federal prison?
