Chapter 48 - the weight of the crown

Later that evening, the estate was perfectly quiet. Ivy found her father sitting in his private study, gazing at an old photograph of Elena from the days before the darkness. She walked in softly, sitting in the leather chair across from him.
"You handled Silas perfectly, Ivy," Dante said, his voice filled with deep, unwavering respect. "You used intellect over violence. You protected your family without compromising your soul. You are a better leader than I ever was."
Ivy smiled gently, reaching across the mahogany desk to hold his scarred, calloused hand. "I only knew how to be strong because I watched you and Mom survive the impossible. I am proud to carry the Pascale name."
Dante squeezed her hand tightly. He had spent his entire life building an empire of fear, but Ivy had transformed it into an empire of hope. The transition of power was finally, undeniably complete in every sense of the word.
"The throne is heavy," Dante whispered, a peaceful smile touching his rugged face. "But you wear it like a true queen."
