Chapter 8 - The Descent Into the Dark

"Where is she, Camilla?" Dante roared, the sheer volume and agony of his voice shaking the frost from the courtyard windows.

Camilla dropped to her knees on the patio, bursting into pathetic, hysterical tears of pure terror. "I had to do it, Dante! She was making you soft! She wanted you to go legitimate! You would have ruined the family empire for her!"

"You stole my wife! You stole my daughter's entire life!" Dante screamed, his finger tightening dangerously against the cold steel trigger. "Show me the door, or I will end you right here on this stone."

Sobbing uncontrollably, Camilla crawled toward the heavy iron doors leading to the estate's forgotten sub-basement—a labyrinth of old prohibition-era wine cellars that had been sealed off for a decade.

Dante didn't wait. He grabbed Camilla by the collar of her expensive mink coat, dragging her violently down the dark, damp stone stairwell.

Behind them, the giant black dog, Argo, despite his bleeding shoulder, forced himself up. The loyal beast limped fiercely down the stairs, followed closely by little Ivy, who was entirely swallowed by her father's massive suit jacket.

They reached a heavy, rusted steel door at the very bottom of the catacombs. Three heavy industrial padlocks secured the outside.

Dante didn't ask for the keys. He raised the pistol and fired three deafening shots, blowing the locks completely off the steel hinges.

👉 The mafia boss kicked the heavy door open, and the devastating reality of what waited inside would break his heart forever.
