Chapter 4 - The Silver Ghost

The heavy, tense silence of the freezing courtyard was broken only by the sound of the harsh Boston wind sweeping through the stone arches.
Ivy kept her small hand buried deep in the thick black fur around the dog's neck. Her fingers carefully traced the edge of a heavy, concealed leather collar that had been completely hidden beneath the animal's thick winter coat.
Dante took a slow, silent step closer, his eyes narrowing with intense, calculating curiosity. He watched as Ivy's realistic facial micro-expressions shifted from calm soothing to intense concentration.
With a small tug, Ivy pulled her hand back from the collar.
Pinched tightly between her tiny thumb and forefinger was a small, glittering object attached to a broken piece of silver chain. She held it up in the pale, freezing sunlight.
It was a silver engagement ring.
Dante completely froze. His heart slammed against his ribs with a violent, catastrophic force. The cold, impenetrable authority of the mafia boss instantly vanished, replaced by sheer, suffocating shock.
A tight, cinematic close-up captured the profound horror and desperate recognition flooding Dante’s dark eyes. He didn't just recognize the cut of the diamond. He had personally designed that exact custom vintage setting five years ago.
It was the ring that belonged to his fiancée, Elena. The woman who had mysteriously vanished from the estate without a trace half a decade ago, leaving him utterly broken.
