Chapter 2 - The King Steps Out

"Drop the chain."
The voice did not yell, yet it possessed a cold, absolute, and lethal authority that seemed to instantly suck all the oxygen out of the freezing Boston courtyard.
Bosow froze mid-swing. All the color violently drained from his face as he slowly turned his head toward the heavy oak doors of the mansion.
Stepping into the biting wind was Dante. The 40-year-old billionaire and undisputed mafia boss of the East Coast wore a perfectly tailored dark suit, completely ignoring the freezing temperature. His presence was a cinematic display of terrifying power. His sharp, dark eyes swept over the blood on the cobblestones, the raised steel weapon, and finally settled on the tiny girl in the red lace dress standing fearlessly in the center of the carnage.
Bosow’s hands shook violently. He immediately dropped the heavy steel chain. It clattered loudly against the frozen stone, echoing like a death knell.
"Boss," Bosow stammered, stepping backward, suddenly terrified for his own life. "The beast... it trespassed through the wrought-iron gates. It's feral. I was just clearing the perimeter."
Dante didn't even look at his trembling guard. His intense, cold gaze remained entirely fixated on the bizarre, dangerous scene in front of him.
The giant black dog was a known killer breed, highly territorial and currently operating on pure, wounded survival instinct. Any sudden movement could cause the massive animal to lash out and tear the little girl apart in a fraction of a second.
