Chapter 3 - The Beast Submits

Dante’s breath plumed in the freezing air, his finger hovering over his weapon as he calculated the distance between the little girl and the massive jaws of the wounded dog.

But Ivy did not run away.

She slowly sank down, her delicate red lace dress pooling directly into the freezing, bloody puddle on the stone courtyard. She didn't seem to feel the biting cold. Her brown curls blew wildly in the wind as she turned her back entirely on the mafia boss and the guard, focusing solely on the terrified, snarling animal.

With breathtaking, cinematic slowness, Ivy reached her tiny, fragile hand toward the giant black dog's neck.

Bosow flinched, expecting a bloodbath. Dante’s jaw locked tightly.

But the dog did not bite.

The moment Ivy’s small fingers brushed against the thick, coarse fur of the beast’s neck, the demonic, defensive snarling completely ceased. The 150-pound animal let out a soft, heartbreaking whimper. Its massive muscles immediately uncoiled.

In a profound display of absolute submission and recognized trust, the giant dog lowered its heavy, bleeding head and gently rested its snout directly onto Ivy's small lap.

Dante stood completely paralyzed. The ruthless, calculating mafia boss watched in utter disbelief. He had trained attack dogs for decades; he knew that a wounded, cornered alpha never submitted to a stranger. The animal wasn't just tolerating the child—it knew her. It was protecting her.
