Chapter 26 - the medical miracle
Time passed in extreme tension. Elena grew weaker by the day, but the smile on her lips never faded. She constantly encouraged Dante and Ivy, reminding them of the beautiful times the whole family had shared.
Ivy discovered a breakthrough experimental stem cell therapy at a research institute in Switzerland. However, this method carried extremely high risks and had not been fully tested on human bodies.
Faced with a life-or-death choice, Dante decided to gamble. He funded a massive amount of money to the research institute and flew Elena to Switzerland on a private jet, clinging to the slimmest hope.
The transplant surgery lasted twelve hours. Dante sat silently in the hallway, his hands clasped together. For the first time in his life, the mafia boss knew the feeling of praying to God for protection.
The operating room doors opened; the chief doctor walked out with an exhausted face but flashing a radiant smile. "The transplant was a success. A miracle has truly happened, Mr. Pascale."
