Chapter 13 - step-by-step recovery

The following weeks were the quietest and most precious time for Dante's family. Elena gradually regained her health under the dedicated care of the best medical team. The smile returned to her lips.

What made Dante happiest was seeing little Ivy and the dog Argo playing on the estate's lush green lawn. The 5-year-old girl was not haunted by the darkness of the basement at all, but always exuded purity.

"She has an incredibly resilient heart," Dante said, draping a warm cloak over Elena's shoulders as the two stood on the balcony looking down at the garden. "Her bravery saved our entire family."

Elena leaned her head against her husband's sturdy shoulder. "Argo too. That dog protected us throughout those darkest years. If Argo hadn't risked his life to run upstairs, we wouldn't have been reunited."

Dante hugged his wife tightly, feeling the warm beat of her heart. He had built an empire of power, but now he realized that the most priceless asset wasn't money or power, but family.
