Chapter 16 - the innocent target

Defeated humiliatingly at the docks, the Falcone boss was mad with rage. He realized he couldn't face Dante's massive armed forces head-on. He decided to employ the most cowardly tactic possible.
He knew Dante's only weakness now was his family. A vicious assassination plot was devised, aimed straight at the car taking little Ivy to her international preschool the very next morning.
Dante's family's bulletproof SUV was moving down the avenue when it was suddenly T-boned by a refrigerated truck. The horrific collision sent the SUV flying onto the sidewalk, the windows cracking.
From the truck, four masked hitmen jumped down, pointing their guns and firing wildly at the armored vehicle. The accompanying bodyguard detail fired back fiercely, forming a wall of flesh to protect the innocent girl in the backseat.
Little Ivy curled up into a ball, covering her ears tightly. Even though she was utterly terrified, she didn't cry or scream at all. The years living in the dark basement had forged an extraordinary endurance in her against adversity.
