Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Pack

The quiet sanctuary of the cedar wood-paneled study returned.
Damian let out a slow, heavy breath, the immense tension finally leaving his broad shoulders. He turned away from the door and looked down at Sophia.
The six-year-old girl in the yellow cardigan and floral dress was still standing there, her small hand resting gently on Bruno’s massive, dark head. The terrifying guard dog looked completely at peace under her touch.
The cold, ruthless mafia boss slowly dropped to one knee, bringing himself down to his daughter's eye level. All the lethal authority vanished from his face, replaced by a profound, agonizingly deep love and protective devotion.
"Are you hurt, Sophia?" Damian asked softly, his hands trembling slightly as he gently checked her small wrists for bruises.
"No, Daddy," Sophia replied, her brave, innocent eyes looking into his. "He just yelled a lot. But Bruno told him to stop."
Damian let out a wet, genuine laugh, a tear escaping his dark eyes. He pulled his daughter into a fierce, desperate hug, holding her tightly against his chest. He had tried to keep her hidden to protect her, but he realized now that she belonged by his side. She was a Cross, and she had the fearless heart of a true leader.

"You will never have to hide again," Damian whispered into her hair, sealing an unbreakable vow. "This is your home now. And you and Bruno are going to rule it."
If you were Damian, would you have banished your treacherous brother overseas, or would you have sent him to prison for kidnapping your child?
