Chapter 3 - The Tiny Hand

The tension in the luxury study was suffocating. Victor squeezed his eyes shut, bracing for the inevitable sound of the dog snapping at the sudden movement.
But Sophia didn't flinch.
The six-year-old girl in the yellow cardigan took a slow, completely fearless step forward. She didn't look at the panicked man sweating against the wall, and she didn't look at the mafia boss watching from the desk.
She looked directly into the furious, yellow eyes of the snarling Cane Corso.
With breathtaking, cinematic realism, Sophia gently reached her tiny, fragile hand toward the massive, muscle-bound beast. The size difference was horrifying; the dog's head was nearly the size of her entire torso. One bite would be completely fatal.
"It's okay," Sophia whispered.
Her voice was incredibly calm, soft, and completely devoid of fear.
Victor opened his eyes, his jaw dropping in absolute disbelief. He fully expected the highly trained attack dog to tear her arm off for invading its space. He had seen Bruno destroy grown men for less.
