Chapter 18 - peaceful years

Ten years after that horrific event, the criminal underworld in Boston had completely changed. Under Damian's iron-fisted yet highly transparent rule, bloody smuggling operations were phased out, making way for legitimate business ventures.

Sophia was now an incredibly beautiful and intelligent sixteen-year-old teenager. She inherited her father's composure and razor-sharp intellect. Bruno was old now, his steps much slower, but he always lay loyally at his little mistress's feet whenever she read.

Despite being wrapped in luxury, Sophia was neither arrogant nor dependent. She was always aware of her immense responsibility to the family. Damian didn't hide his past; he taught her how to draw a clear line between power and brutality.

On her birthday, Sophia stood before the mirror, putting on a gorgeously exquisite evening gown. She was no longer the trembling six-year-old girl in the study from years ago, but had become the proud, sole heir of a mighty empire.
