Chapter 112 - the ultimatum
Sophia calmly opened the envelope in her executive office. Inside was a formal subpoena to testify before a senate committee, accompanied by an implicit ultimatum: hand over the management rights of the foundation, or face fabricated tax evasion charges.
Ruby stepped into the office, placing a thick dossier on the mahogany desk. Inheriting her father's terrifyingly cold composure, Ruby's face was a mask of absolute, unyielding stone. She operated flawlessly and lethally.
"Sterling has bribed half of the committee members," Ruby reported, her voice containing a low rumble of cold indignation. "He has prepared a dirty media campaign to smear our family's honor before the hearing even takes place."
Sophia stood up, her dark eyes flashing with a razor-sharp glint. The queen of the Moretti empire had never backed down before any extortionist, no matter how immense a political facade that person hid behind.
