Chapter 24 - the challenger revealed

A week after the arson, Sophia received an encrypted call. On the other end was a deep, husky voice carrying absolute arrogance. It was Alexander, the son of the gang leader the Cross family wiped out two decades ago.

"You seem to really enjoy doing charity, Miss Sophia," Alexander mocked. "But this city isn't run on free medicine. It runs on money and blood. Hand over the seaport, or next time the thing burning will be a hospital."

Sophia kept her tone completely flat, revealing not a single flash of emotion. "You are threatening the wrong person, Alexander. I am not a nun. If you want the seaport, come see me in person to take it."

Alexander burst into a loud laugh, accepting the challenge. He agreed to meet her at an abandoned pier at midnight. He believed that with dozens of pre-positioned snipers, he would easily force the young woman to her knees in surrender.
