Chapter 1 - The Final Sound

A high-pitched, continuous, and absolutely deafening hum shattered the luxurious silence of the sprawling American mansion outside Boston. The harsh red line on the cardiac monitor pulled entirely flat. The bright, unforgiving light from the towering crystal chandelier above illuminated the horrific scene playing out on the priceless, patterned Persian rug.

Six-month-old Noah lay entirely motionless, wrapped tightly in a fluffy light blue blanket, his tiny face completely pale.

The lead paramedic, a broad man in a navy blue emergency medical uniform, slowly pulled his hands away from the infant’s chest. His broad shoulders slumped, his face a mask of defeated, clinical finality. He looked down at the floor, shaking his head. It was over. The baby was gone.

"I said do it again!"

The agonizing, guttural scream ripped through the classic architecture of the room, vibrating with pure, unfiltered agony. Michael Carter, the terrifying and undisputed king of the East Coast underground, dropped violently to his knees on the Persian rug. The tall, heavily muscular man in his thirties was completely broken. His unbuttoned white dress shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to expose the dark, lethal tattoos on his chest and hands, clung to his sweating, trembling frame.

The ruthless mafia boss grabbed the medic by the collar, tears streaming down his rugged, stubbled face. His devastated despair was suffocating.

"Please!" Michael choked out, his voice cracking into a desperate sob. "He's just a baby! Try again!"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Carter," the paramedic whispered, looking away. "His heart stopped. We've done everything we can."

👉 Michael was about to pull his weapon in blinding grief, but someone completely unexpected was about to breach the room.
