Chapter 8 - The First Breath

Three agonizing minutes had passed. The ice was melting into the expensive Persian rug. Emily’s arms were burning, but she refused to stop. She leaned down, delivering a tiny, precise breath into Noah’s mouth, then immediately resumed the compressions.

Suddenly, the discarded cardiac monitor on the floor emitted a single, sharp sound.

Beep.

Michael stopped breathing entirely. His hand shook so violently he nearly dropped his weapon.

Beep... Beep... Beep.

The flat red line on the screen violently jagged upward, finding a slow, struggling, but entirely undeniable rhythm.

Noah’s tiny chest shuddered. A small, weak cough escaped the infant's lips, followed immediately by a loud, piercing, and incredibly beautiful cry. The baby's arms flailed slightly, his skin rapidly shifting from pale to a healthy, flushed pink as the ice neutralized the remaining toxin and his heart pumped fresh oxygen through his tiny body.

Emily let out a heavy, shuddering breath, her fierce composure finally cracking as realistic tears of profound relief flooded her eyes. She gently pulled the fluffy light blue blanket back over the freezing baby, scooping him up carefully into her arms.

Michael dropped his gun. The heavy weapon hit the floor with a loud clatter. The terrifying mafia boss fell back to his knees, crawling across the wet rug until he reached Emily. He wrapped his massive, tattooed arms around both the maid and his crying son, burying his face in the light blue blanket, sobbing with absolute, unadulterated joy.

👉 The baby was safe, but the mafia boss now had to demand the truth from the woman who performed a medical miracle.
