Chapter 2 - The Maid's Rebellion

The heavy mahogany doors of the master suite were barricaded by four of Michael’s most lethal, heavily armed enforcers. They had been given strict orders to let absolutely no one inside while the medical team worked. But the horrific sound of the flatlining monitor had echoed down the marble hallway, triggering an explosive reaction from the shadows.

"Move!"

The sharp, incredibly loud command shocked the armed guards. Before the massive men could even raise their hands to block the doorway, Emily violently shoved past them.

The 23-year-old woman was just a cleaner. She wore a simple light blue maid uniform with a crisp white collar and a white apron. Her dark hair was thrown up into a chaotic, messy bun, and she carried no weapons. Yet, she moved with an absolute, terrifying urgency that completely paralyzed the seasoned mafia soldiers. She didn't cower. She didn't hesitate.

Emily burst into the chaotic, brightly lit room, her eyes instantly locking onto the tiny, motionless body on the Persian rug.

Michael looked up through his blurry, tear-filled eyes, his overwhelming grief momentarily short-circuiting into stunned disbelief. What was the maid doing in here?

Emily ignored the mafia boss. She ignored the heavily armed guards stepping in behind her. She dropped forcefully to her knees on the intricate patterns of the rug, directly beside Michael. With incredible gentleness that completely contradicted her violent entrance, she reached out and took the limp, blue-blanketed baby into her arms.
