Chapter 5 - The Saboteur's Panic

The color completely drained from the lead paramedic’s face. His broad shoulders stiffened, and a heavy, unnatural sweat broke out across his forehead. Emily hadn't just diagnosed a rare medical condition; she had accurately described a highly classified, untraceable assassination compound used exclusively by rival syndicates.
The medic realized he was exposed. He had been paid a fortune to inject the baby with the synthetic paralytic during a routine checkup, ensuring Michael Carter's only heir would die of "natural" sudden infant death syndrome.
"She’s insane!" the paramedic shouted, his voice cracking with sheer, unfiltered panic. He stepped forward aggressively, reaching toward his heavy medical bag. "Mr. Carter, she is desecrating your son's body! I am calling the police to have her arrested!"
Emily ignored him entirely. "I need ice! Now! We have a three-minute window to cool his core temperature and shock the toxin out of the receptors before the brain damage becomes permanent!"
The paramedic didn't go for ice. He lunged directly at Emily, his massive hands reaching out to violently throw the young woman away from the baby.
"Get away from him!" the medic roared, fully intending to physically crush the maid to ensure the baby stayed dead.
