Chapter 25 - necessary ruthlessness

Mateo trembled, clutching his wound, looking up at the mafia boss in terror. He had vastly underestimated how terrifying Michael Carter was. Over the years, the facade of a reformed man had made him mistakenly believe the beast had been tamed.

"Spare me... Please..." Mateo whispered, dropping all his arrogance. He realized death was imminent.

But mercy could never be allowed to exist when the safety of the family was threatened. "Fifteen years ago, I spared your life because you were just a child," Michael said, his voice deep and incredibly cold. "That was a mistake."

Bang! A decisive gunshot completely ended the revenge of the Falcone family. Seeing their leader dead, the surviving subordinates dropped their weapons and surrendered. The bloody raid ended swiftly in miserable defeat.

As the final gunshot faded, Emily ran up from the safe bunker, throwing herself into her husband's sturdy arms. Michael hugged his wife tightly, feeling her heartbeat gradually steady. The storm had truly passed.
