Chapter 102 - the brave girl

Michael Jr. immediately locked down the hospital room to prevent widespread infection. Just as he stepped out into the hallway, he bumped into a young woman soaking wet from the rain. She wore a faded jacket, her large brown eyes overflowing with panic and despair.

"Is the boy... is Leo okay, doctor?" the girl asked, trembling. Her name was Chloe, a volunteer at the city's suburban orphanage where the boy Leo lived. She had carried him and ran through the pouring rain for three miles when she couldn't call an ambulance.

Michael Jr. looked at her, feeling a strangely familiar resilience. He recalled the story of his grandmother Emily from years ago. "The boy is in critical condition, but I promise to do everything I can. Chloe, is there anyone else at the orphanage showing symptoms like Leo?"

Chloe nodded, tears falling. "There are three other children with high fevers. Last week, a charity claiming to be 'Green Future' came to give the children free vaccines. I tried to stop them because they had no permit, but the orphanage director had been bribed by them."
