Chapter 9 - The Undercover Surgeon

The lead paramedic, realizing his assassination plot had completely failed, tried to slowly edge toward the doorway.

Michael didn't even look up. He simply snapped his fingers. His elite guards instantly tackled the broad medic to the floor, dragging him violently out of the room toward the basement to extract exactly who had hired him.

The opulent mansion room finally grew quiet, save for the soft, comforting sounds of Noah cooing against Emily’s chest.

Michael slowly pulled back. He wiped the tears from his stubbled face, his dark eyes locking onto the young woman in the ruined maid uniform. The profound gratitude in his expression was heavily mixed with intense, calculating curiosity.

"You didn't learn that in a housekeeping seminar," Michael said, his deep voice thick with emotion. "You commanded this room like a chief of surgery. Who exactly are you, Emily?"

Emily looked down at the baby, a small, sad smile playing on her lips. She gently rocked Noah, her slow eye movement shifting back to the mafia boss.

"My name is Dr. Emily Vance," she said quietly, her voice entirely steady. "I was a pediatric trauma surgeon at Boston General. Six months ago, I operated on the son of the rival Falcone syndicate. He didn't make it. The Falcones put a bounty on my head. I had to disappear."

Michael stared at her, stunned. The Falcones were his biggest rivals.

"I took the job as your maid because a mafia fortress was the safest place in the city to hide," Emily confessed, holding her head high. "I tried to stay invisible. But when I saw his monitor flatline... I couldn't let another child die. Even if it meant exposing myself."

👉 Emily expected the mafia boss to throw her out on the street for lying, but his response would change her life forever.
