Chapter 22 - the siege

The screech of tires echoed deafeningly on the brick pavement of the front courtyard. From the pitch-black armored vehicles, dozens of gunmen in black poured out, unleashing a frantic hail of bullets at the tempered glass of the luxurious estate.
Michael did not flinch. The combat skills of a boss who had survived countless life-and-death battles instantly awakened. He ordered the automated defense system to activate, and thick steel plates immediately dropped down as shields.
"Emily, get Noah down to the safe bunker immediately!" Michael yelled over the whistling bullets. Emily nodded; she didn't panic. Fifteen years living beside the underworld king had transformed her into an incredibly resilient queen.
Noah refused to run. The teenager pulled a small pistol from his waistband, his eyes as unwavering as his father's. "I'm staying to fight with you, Dad. I'm no longer a child who needs protecting."
Michael looked at his son, his eyes filled with both pride and worry. But the dire situation left no room for hesitation. He nodded, tossing him a spare magazine. "Remember what I taught you. Do not leave my sight."
