Chapter 14 - the invisible bond
Emily woke with a start when she felt a warm blanket draped over her shoulders. She turned around, catching Michael's profound yet gentle gaze. The tense atmosphere had completely dissipated.
"Did you stay up all night?" Emily asked softly, afraid of waking little Noah. Even though she knew he was a notorious mafia boss, after fighting together to snatch the child's life back, she no longer felt afraid of him.
Michael nodded, pulling up a chair and sitting opposite her. "All threats have been completely eliminated. The Falcone gang will no longer have a chance to hunt you down. You are absolutely safe under my protection, Dr. Vance."
Emily smiled in relief, looking down at the hands that had performed hundreds of life-saving surgeries. "Thank you. I never thought I would find safety in the lair of a mafia gang like this."
"And I never thought a female doctor would brave gunfire to save my son's life," Michael replied sincerely. He looked at her with completely different eyes, not as an employee.
