Chapter 11 - the endless long night

The sprawling mansion of the Carter family was plunged into an eerie silence following the horrific event. Little Noah had fallen into a peaceful sleep under Emily's strict supervision. No one was allowed to approach the boy.
Michael stood on the balcony, taking a deep drag of his cigarette. The hazy smoke could not hide the extreme coldness in the deep black eyes of the boss. For the first time, someone had dared to touch his flesh and blood.
The incident with the bribed paramedic was just the tip of the iceberg. There was a high-level mole inside the organization who had provided Noah's medical schedule and paved the way for the assassin to slip through the security system.
Michael crushed the cigarette, turning on his heel and striding away, murderous intent billowing from him. He descended into the basement, where the paramedic was tied tightly to a steel chair. His face was battered from brutal interrogation blows.
"I am only going to ask this once," Michael gritted out every word, drawing a gleaming military dagger. "Who in this house aided you? Tell me, or you will be begging for death for the rest of your life."
